It’s never too late to get a vaccination! The single best way to protect against the flu is to get vaccinated each year. Influenza outbreaks can happen as early as October. Most of the time influenza activity peaks in January or later.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends getting your flu vaccine as soon as it is available.

3 Types of Influenza Vaccines

  • Flu Shot
    • Inactivated vaccine (containing killed virus)
      • Injected, usually in the arm, or the thigh (children)
      • For healthy people and those with chronic medical conditions, older than 6 months.

  • High Dose
    • For people 65 years and older
  • Flu Mist
    • A vaccine made with live, weakened flu viruses that do not cause the flu.
      • For healthy people ages 2-49 years old.
